Workshops For Teachers

Schools and teachers have spent time discussing and realizing the merits of Project Based Learning.  Admin is ready to support it.  Teachers struggle with letting go of the familiar and need guidance.  Students struggle when required to make individual choices and show initiative.  I’m convinced that properly spent PD will ease the adjustment/transformation to more progressive teaching and learning.

Teachers are students of my project when attending the workshop.  They will create, critique, revise and exhibit.  I will provide structure and facilitate.  After over 20 iterations of the workshop over the past 9 years with teachers of all disciplines, I have developed a workshop that will allow a school to move on from static debate to dynamic implementation.

The below quotes are taken from Workshop Evaluations:

“It helped me to realize that PBL isn’t “something more to add to my long teacher list of things to do,” and that in fact, it is a viable teaching method that will help improve my pedagogy. I am looking forward to seeing what difference this makes for the students and for me.”
- Teacher, Rocky View School District, Bert Church High School, Calgary, Canada

“This was a very inspiring presentation and an amazing approach to making the learning meaningful and purposeful to the student.”
-Administrator, Cathedral School For Boys, San Francisco, Ca

“Excellent work. Many facilitators play the role of “The All Knowing Expert”. You did an excellent job facilitating good discussions and planning. We were looking for something to hang our hat on and this workshop provided that for us”
- Teacher, The Kiski School in Pennsylvania.

“I really liked getting feedback from others and sharing ideas.
The information on how to structure the PBL was excellent.”

- Teacher, Hewitt School for Girls.  New York City

“It gave us a framework to keep coming back to so that our project and work stayed on track with the purpose of the workshop.”
- Teacher, Latin School of Chicago

“Four years ago, a small group of teachers from our school district around Calgary, Canada went to High Tech High to see PBL in action. Their enthusiasm was so profound, the district brought Blair Hatch in to lead the entire staff through an inspirational and practical process to co-construct learning for their students. Since, over a hundred teachers in our district have participated in numerous excellent workshops led by Blair. His knowledge, experience, concrete exemplars and mentorship has been a tremendous asset to the growth of our entire distrtict. Blair’s workshops are practical, hands-on, inspiring professional learning. Highly recommended!” - Richard Gaudio, Learning Specialist, Rocky View Schools
